There Is Life After The Referendum

The big day came and went and the No campaign in a very tense referendum came out on top.

But still after the referendum and the result there is still debate on the results, it's seems we have sore losers emerging and really makes the whole referendum now, not about independence, freedom or self governance but about a few egos.


Alex Salmond despite losing his referendum delivered on his promise of the referendum which is an achievement in itself, but i can't help but wonder if it was all about him, merely attention seeking, fulfilling his own self need for recognition.

It would be hard to judge a man who i don't know, but the promise of devolved powers is still a big deal, especially in political circles which seems to be getting more and more complicated.

Devolved powers is nothing to fear, it's merely giving freedom and freedom of choice to the people of Scotland whilst maintaining the unity and security of our island nation.

I would say David Cameron did a good thing with this referendum, he gave people in Scotland the choice, he agreed to the referendum without knowing the outcome, more could be said of the same for those who were voting in the referendum, those who voted Yes were those who were happy to take the risk on the unknown, everything about an independent Scotland was an unknown, nobody could predict the economic outcome had Scotland gone independent.

I can only commend David Cameron for his Conservative approach to this, the ideology of Conservatism is freedom, freedom of choice and individuality, it was given to the people of Scotland.

Although i will always remember this referendum, not about the people, but the ego that is Alex Salmond.

The next big referendum should David Cameron be able to win the 2015 General Election is the In/Out Referendum on Europe in 2017, which has to be given, again it's about freedom of choice.

I Gave My Word The Newark By-Election Wouldn't Shock Me And It Didn't!

Did you stay up late to watch the results of the Newark By-Election?

Did you really think UKIP were going to take their first parliamentary seat?

If you thought Newark was going to fall, then you really need to think about this and all the Newark By-Election came down to was, who had the most skin in the game.

You will have most probably heard the statement, but when one group puts out 600 people and say the other groups put out 30 people, who is going to win?

It comes down to a bit of psychology, 600 people from one group makes the people of Newark feel special and they will likely vote in your favour as the view of the other groups is that you simply couldn't be bothered with us, so you don't really care about us.

I will say that UKIP do like to get people working and this perceived threat is definitely giving some people squeaky bums, there still no true data or statistics to say that UKIP are a major threat, it's all perceived and UKIP just like Blair like to use fear to induce shock and awe, as said before in a previous post, you can only shock people until the effect wears off. I think this is what is happening now.

All credit to the candidate, he will have put a certain amount of skin in the game to achieve his outcome.

Now we have to look at what 2015 will bring!

The 600 Strong Rode Into Newark

We've had Local Elections, we've had European Elections now we have a By-Election, if you live in Newark you're in for a treat, you get to vote 3 times in one year.

As loyal as i am to the Conservative Party, i just don't think UKIP have the ground, the people or the funds to fight this By-Election.

The whole UKIP thingy seems like a flash in the pan, you can only shock and awe for so long before the initial shock wears off, take Iraq for example, we gave them shock and awe and it didn't take long before they wanted us out, in the same analogy it won't take long before people want UKIP out.

Sensationalising by the media is what has got people hopping around like bunnies shouting UKIP are going to do this and that,  clearly a party with one policy isn't really going anywhere.

With that being said today in Newark over 600 activists turned out to campaign for the upcoming By-Election, but was it panic and fear of UKIP or merely the oldest party in the country flexing it's political muscle?

This By-Election for me won't throw up any shocks, i wasn't shocked by the European Election results, i don't think UKIP are going to shock me in this election.

The Citadel Still Stands, Was It A Tremor Or A Murmur?

2014 was the year of UKIP, the rise of a protest party and that was about it, nothing really much to shout about.

Most results were already predicted, the slide of the Lib Dems, Labour and the Conservatives losing ground, but still i don't see myself shouting about anything.

All i see is that everyone who stood for election got so blindsided by UKIP and Nigel Farage that they forgot what they were doing and that is to win a election for their party.

Most Townhalls are still standing, UKIP only really took a handful of seats, they didn't take entire councils and in 2015 it is unlikely that they will get any MPs and that is how you judge your success, how many backsides you have on the benches in the House of Commons and in Councils around the country.

UKIP for me have limited appeal, they have limited policies and limited funds and no self respecting business owner would really fund them, i don't think they're fruitcakes in the way they've been portrayed, their election campaign was merely shock and awe when everyone else was hoodwinked into thinking something else.

UKIP remind me of the days of old, the protest vote for the BNP & National Front, two parties with limited appeal and policies, where are they now?

You don't have to be a mathematician to work out how UKIP work, they do the same as any other protest party, work areas of deprivation and poverty, promise the earth and don't deliver.

If your into UKIP i wish you all the best of luck, it's going to be a rocky road to find legitimacy, i don't think i'll be hearing the immortal words of "I vote UKIP because my mum, dad, aunt, uncle, parrot did, so do I!"

We're Getting A Audi!

In the immortal words of Peter Griffin from Family Guy, "Sweet, I'm getting a Audi", of course in the episode, Peter wasn't getting a Audi, but a severe audit from the IRS.

Yesterday our Chancellor George Osborne didn't really need his flak jacket on, with the UK's GDP figures at 0,3%, not the best GDP figures in the world and lets face it we could do better. It's not too long now until the IMF will decide to audit our economy, it would seem that the Austerity Measures or the speed of these Austerity Measures are what are hampering growth for us, did George cut too fast and too deep?

It would seem George might have and let's have look at why this has happened, it stems from a disease that is going through our politicians of having a one track mind a delusion that something bad will happen if we don't keep cutting. Nothing will actually happen if we slow down the rate of cuts, it would take a lot to send the country bankrupt and let's face it the last government tried this and we were flexible enough to bounce back.

Yesterday's figures showed that mining was a key industry, but the mining companies don't actually have to rely on the UK's economy for their own growth and profits, they can use several markets to make their money.

Does our economy need a audit from the IMF, I would say it does and George Osborne needs to listen to people and not those who can curry his favour with flashy events, George Osborne should also take himself away from the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250, the companies on those two markets don't actually have to rely on the UK economy to profit and grow, the companies listed on both indexes tend to trade on multiple markets.

However the FTSE A-Z generally has a lot more companies that are UK based and it might be worthwhile promoting this market for growth and investment, the companies listed on the FTSE A-Z are far more likely to create jobs when they're profiting and are more likely to expand their business, after all they want to be listed on the FTSE 100 and 250 one day, as the FTSE 100 and 250 are a measurement of the top performing 100 and top 250 companies in the UK.
