It's been a turbulent time for Nintendo, the console and game developer that went to war with Sega in the 80s and 90s and can really be said that it was the first real console war, Sonic vs Mario, who really won?
Clearly it was Mario in that battle, but now there is a new battleground which Nintendo cannot win, Microsoft vs Sony.
The problems Nintendo has with it's market share is that it's games are not ultra realistic like the new generation of consoles, the games are imaginative but haven't really changed much in their style, the Wii U has been a flop, Nintendo handheld consoles not really doing much better.
I remember a time when i travelled i would see people with a DS Lite around their neck, now not so much. I have a 3DS and i hate to say this, i traded in my Xbox 360 for the 3DS, although with all my Xbox games i did get the brand new 3DS for free and had to pay £20 extra for Animal Crossing New Leaf. However i'm getting slightly bored of the 3DS, Animal Crossing New Leaf is a good game, but it does get boring very quickly.
The games Nintendo makes are really for the novelty factor and the 3DS really only appeals to females, most of the games are cutesy things that don't have much substance.
Nintendo needs to change the style of game it makes, it needs to reform it's app store within the console's, especially on the 3DS to have some free items.
Nintendo is great for the parent that is conscious of violence and swearing that is available on the other consoles, but the games appeal to younger children and that is about it.
Nintendo aren't just competing with Sony & Microsoft, they have to compete with Mobile devices.
I don't think it will be long until we see the demise of Nintendo, the same way Sega went and maybe just become a game developer and publisher.
